Lunch and Picking
Today Jon and I had lunch in beautiful downtown Erbil. It was so hot today, 33 degrees celsius which is 91.4 degrees fahrenheit. It is only going to get hotter from here, but it was so nice to get out and see the city.
We ordered chicken shwarma and got chicken kahbab. We just laugh a little between us and dig in.
After lunch it was time to pick. First we went to the Arab section of downtown which is mostly just the junk yard.
If you like to pick this is paradise. We have been here a couple of times, but this is the first time we bought something.
All the flags are up for the election on Wednesday. The city is covered with them. The yellow is PDK, which is Barzani's party. He is in power now. The blue ones are for Goran which is a new more liberal party. There is also a green party and a brown party. The brown party is Islamic fundamentalist. Most everyone votes PDK.
This shop has always intrigued us. We bought a nice plate here today. I saw some really great dishes here I want to come back and get.
At this shop we bought a very nice Kurdish rug for $50.00. What a steal.
The next stop was this antique store. We spent along time in this store. Things here were quite expensive, but we bought a small pottery from Syria and some coins for Christian.
Our picks from today, rug, dish and pottery.
